Gorgeous 14 month old Oliver came for his children’s photo shoot yesterday from Bletchley, Milton Keynes. Our photography is known for our signature black and white style but on arrival, it was clear that to do justice to Oliver’s flame red hair we needed to ensure we included a couple colour shots in his gallery.

Oliver settled really quickly into the studio, despite mum’s acknowledgement that he’d been a little unsettled earlier that morning. We often find that baby’s and toddlers mood changes when they come for a shoot, there’s something about the uniqueness of the setting which creates a distraction. It’s also the reason why we prefer to shoot in the morning. From experience, most children are more responsive and willing to be photographed early in the day, before the day starts to tire them.

Oliver has a huge grin that lights up the room! He had a few coy moments where he seemed conscious of being in the spotlight but stayed smiley all the same. He interacted playfully with Andy as he worked the camera, and Andy blew a few raspberry’s and made tractor noises which really got them on the same level!

Oliver was a very generous 14 month old as he sat still for a good 5-10 minutes allowing Andy to get some lovely close ups. When temptation won and he reversed off the beanbag to go exploring, it was good timing for us to change the set.

This was a super quick shoot as Oliver was a natural in front of the camera. We always try to get a range of shots, and when this is done quickly, the shoot can take about half an hour although on average, it takes “much” longer. We never underestimate how tiring a shoot is for a young child; there is never need to prolong the experience, as a toddler of this age will naturally have had enough around the 40 minute mark. We always allow time for children to have a cuddle with mum while we chat over a well earned brew though!

Thanks to mum and Oliver for a lovely shoot.
