We welcomed 12 day old baby Victoria from nearby Market Harborough out of the cold and into our warm studio yesterday.  We’re reliably informed she’s wakeful at night, which was to our advantage as she virtually slept throughout the whole of her newborn photoshoot. Some babies who come for their newborn photography are very alert and think sleep is a bad idea, but Victoria very much enjoyed snoozing, opening her eyes for a very brief spell before drifting back into sleepy bliss.

We started the shoot with some wrapped shots, expecting the rather rude transition from her warm baby grow to our wrap to wake her which is typically the case. Whilst she did wake, it was only for a moment, unable to resist the warmth of our fluffy blanket backdrop, snuggling back down almost instantly. We love the shot of her tiny hand peeking out of the wrap, the picture of newness and innocence.

After a quick feed she was soon asleep again, this time ‘milk drunk’ which was perfect for us to get going on our workflow of posed shots. We always start with the head on hands shot whenever possible, as this is a semi upright position and perfect for a newborn with a full tummy. We adore the close up shot where she’s snoozing on her hands; a very pure image and strikingly beautiful in its simplicity.

We create each image to highlight tiny features as sadly, they won’t stay this tiny for long, and images like these where you can see delicate fingers, Victoria’s dinky nose and pouty lips just make you go awwwww! At 12 days old, she’d already learnt to stretch her legs out from their foetal tucked up position and given another week, it would be less possible to create these images.  We never place a baby in a pose if they seem uncomfortable, hence why most photographers request a 14 day window for newborn photography.

“We thoroughly enjoyed the photoshoot. Andy and Debbie made us feel completely at ease and they handled our baby girl with the utmost care and attention. We would have no hesitation in recommending them to friends and family. The pictures captured our daughter perfectly and we couldn’t be happier with the finished frames!” Victoria’s mummy, kind words left on Google.

It was such a lovely shoot we were sad when it came to an end, although the studio was hot in contrast to the frost outside and we were melting while keeping Victoria warm! We were also finished in super quick time in just under 2 hours, an added bonus for tired parents. A massive thanks to mum and dad for choosing us to photograph their precious new daughter Victoria for the first time, it was an absolute pleasure!
