And now for something completely different! We’re thrilled to add a new strand to our studio, and here are a few photographs from our first ever maternity photo shoot… and we’re so excited about the results!
This was time for Andy to go back to his roots and really work his expertise with the studio lights, as a maternity photographer it is all about flattering shape and form, highlighting beautiful curves and the magnificence of pregnancy. Whilst I was at hand to both style the shoot and make sure that mum to be was happy and comfortable.

We were so lucky to have an amazing model, who was creatively minded and very generous in sharing her precious time and ideas. Modelling is surprisingly tiring for anyone, but especially when you’ve a belly full of baby. Our model was exceptional and coped very well with the bump photo shoot, taking rest breaks as we worked.
We opted for some tasteful full length shots with our specialist hand made maternity gowns to profile her delicate form both with bump hidden and revealed. We also experimented with some more modest shots recognising that semi-naked maternity portraits are not for everyone; instead wearing figure hugging clothes which profiles shape whilst still looking amazing.
It was one of those shoots that seemed to gather momentum and left us all buzzing, feeling inspired and the creative juices flowing. It’s always so refreshing to try something new, and especially memorable through the added privilege of getting to know a lovely person during the process.
Maternity shoots are quite specialist, and not for the faint hearted as they involve being at ease with your body, but we say celebrate the bump! It’s worth it; such a rare opportunity to capture some truly beautiful and powerful shots of the female form before baby’s arrival, becoming an irreplaceable photographic keepsake to cherish and look back on for years to come.
We believe that black and white portraiture comes into it’s own with this genre, as monochrome adds impact to the images and offers an opportunity to blend variations in skin tone naturally. We are so thrilled with the results and can’t quite believe our luck in having such an elegant and willing model to work so closely with. Thank you!
