Another super cute newborn put a smile on our faces in our first week of 2016. A huge welcome was given to gorgeous baby Lucy from Northampton who came for her first newborn photographs at just 9 days old.

Lucy arrived bright eyed and bushy tailed! She was wide eyed when she got to the studio which is unusual, as most babies arrive fast asleep and disgruntled to be woken, but Lucy seemed curious about the studio from the start. This was great for us as we got a lengthy glimpse of a curious newborn, eyes wide open to start with which allowed us to get some classic wide awake photos. We love the side on awake shot in particular because her expression is so typically newborn.

Babies tire quickly after a spell modelling helped by the heat of the room and the energy of tuning in to their environment, not to mention copious amounts of milk. This allowed us to get to work for the snoozy shots, and we love the head on hands pose as she looks so beautiful and squishy! I often chat with clients about babies and their hair which I’m slightly obsessed by! Honestly, she had so much you could have styled it but also works well in newborn photography as it frames a sleeping face and provides definition in the final image.

Working with Lucy was a dream, she was quite touch sensitive as we worked, and responded well to a hand resting gently on her as she slept and as we worked through the movements to pose her. Her curiosity about the world meant a short wait while she drifted into deep sleep, and although this waiting time can be frustrating for tired parents, secretly it’s enjoyable for us as we admire each baby to read and understand their individual preferences for noise, touch, light tolerance etc.

We’re lucky enough to meet Lucy again soon when we welcome her back for some shots with her siblings, and look forward to meeting the rest of the family. Thanks to mum for sharing this special time with us.
