Thought we’d share this gorgeous little fella from today’s newborn photoshoot who was an absolute pleasure to photograph. We were thrilled to welcome our prize draw winners from The Baby Show held at the NEC in May. Our clients told us they never win anything so thanks to sis on this occasion for entering mum into our competition!
It’s only a short drive from nearby Leicestershire to our studio which meant 7 day old Alfie arrived ready for a feed – perfect for creating the all important sleep so we could get straight down to work. The high temperatures this week have been record breaking, and we were a little unsure how a newborn baby would cope as our studio is always roasting. We needn’t have worried, little Alfie was just fine, blissfully sleeping virtually all the way through meaning we were the ones melting amongst the blankets and studio lights.

It’s fair to say Alfie was a real wriggler. Although perfectly sleepy, he loved to shimmy his arms and hands around, especially when we placed him into position, when he’d just wriggle himself back out again. We just rolled with this as Alfie knew better than anyone exactly what felt comfortable, allowing us to capture some beautiful shots that illustrate how content he was. Close up cuddles with mum and dad at home meant he was quite used to being on his tummy, so we could capture some classic head on hands shots, and always one of our personal favourites.

Although newborn photographers have a range of skills and techniques they use in sessions, Alfie made the whole thing seem a breeze, he really was a model newborn and sessions like this are an absolute joy. We liked that he finalised his own positioning as we worked which gives a very natural feel to his images, and a relaxed style we very much aim to achieve.
Alfie was surprisingly expressive for an asleep newborn, we love the wrapped shot with the smile as he looks happy and content, which is exactly how he was throughout…. so tempting to add a slogan to this one though!
Today, the added bonus came in the form of winning the game of nappy-off roulette much to our delight, although not so for mum and dad who each got a soaking but at least Alfie was playing fair!

We’re really grateful to mum and dad for giving us permission to share their images online, as it allows us to show some beautiful images of Alfie individually with both mum and dad, and together as a new family unit. Pride and tenderness is obvious in these images and we love that these tender bonds are captured so clearly. In the photography world, there’s recognition that parents often don’t exist in their family photos and it was great to be able to capture a few family shots today. It’s a sleep deprived time in any new parents life and probably not a time when most would choose ideally to be photographed, but it’s so important years down the line to look back and see pictures of early family days together. We think these images are gorgeous and really capture the joy of the arrival of gorgeous baby Alfie.
