Introducing stunning 9 month old baby Ruby from Milton Keynes, who popped along to the studio with mum to have her portraits photographed.
This gorgeous little girl reminded us of the energy you need to be around children who have just learnt to move, as this little girl was a pocket sized rocket! She humoured us to allow a few sitting down portraits on the beanbag at the start the shoot, before heading off on all fours to explore, taking in circuits of the studio. She might not be walking quite yet, but she’s just days away from toddling fun and can certainly motor on all fours. (Our studio lights are all safely wall mounted for this very reason.)
This baby shoot had to happen quickly as Ruby had a lot to do, which is true of any mobile 9 month old, and mum was fantastic, knowing just how to get Ruby to stop for a moment and work the lens. We stood in awe watching mum pull entertainment out of the bag, making Ruby laugh and holding her attention long enough for a range of natural expressions to show.
Ruby’s crazy mop of dark curls create natural definition in her shots and photograph beautifully. Coupled with this, she has an enormous smile and very playful character so this was a high energy, fun family shoot. There were also enormous amounts of slobber as this is prime teething age, but a quick wipe here and there and a bit of photoshop magic afterwards during editing removed any traces from her final images.
The whole event had clearly been an exciting adventure for Ruby. From her train journey in from Milton Keynes to being in the spotlight in the studio, she was clearly enjoying herself and it was all eyes on Ruby as her cheeky personality really shone.
Our new chaise longue prop also had its first outing, as it’s perfect cruising height. It doubles up as a handy seat when the energy starts to wane, and allowed Ruby the chance to look at a book during a pit stop as the photos show. We love shots like this, its not always the traditional ‘smile at the camera’ images that capture a magical quality; it’s very often candid moments that draw the viewer into a photo and make a connection . Ruby’s concentration really shows, and some of these more natural expressions form really precious memories.
We both really enjoyed this shoot. Mum was great fun to be with and expert in entertaining Ruby. Ruby knew how to interact and already has a fab sense of humour.
This shoot is why we do what we do, so thank you to mum and Ruby for a great afternoon, hope you enjoy the results!
